For all you book worms out there!
I just finnished reading Nelson Demille's last novel co-authored with his son Alex. Sadly Nelson passed away 17 SEP 2024. He has written some of my favorite novels, such as Plum Island, The Lion's Game, The Talbot Odyssey, and Word of Honor. Hopefully his beloved characters such as John Corey and Scott Brodie/Maggie Taylor will continue to live on under his name.
The Tin Men is a military investigative/police procedure novel set in a ficticious top secrety ARMY camp in the Arizona Desert. The purpose of the camp is to test AI powered autonomous humanoid robts developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) against a team of ARMY Rangers.
During the testing, the lead scientist is killed by one of the robotic soliders. Warrant Officers Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor from CID must determine if this was a bug, AI gone awry, or premeditated murder. Along the way they discover the issolation the project and base demands and the dehumanising nature of battling against an unfeeling enemy has caused some unusual psychological and moral issues. The ultimate decision of the program continuing rests in the seasoned investigators hands.
I found The Tin Men to be a really good read! There were times when I just could not put the book down! Which to me is always a sign that I have found a great book.
I highly recommend picking up a copy of The Tin Men! Especially if you are an avid Demille fan like myself.
