A popular rpg-style in my shop is the Dungeon Crawler series by Carl Matt
Dinniman. The hardbacks have a funny "extra" clue/title under the dust
    jacket.

I suppose it is not related to Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup, isn't it?

    Sounds about the same:

"Dungeon Crawler Carl follows Carl, a Coast Guard veteran, and his ex- girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, as they navigate an 18-level dungeon created by an alien corporation after Earth is destroyed. They must survive a deadly game show called Dungeon Crawler World, where their actions are live- streamed and survival depends on entertaining an audience while battling monsters and completing challenges."

Ed Greenwood used to write a lot of stuff that felt very "dungeon crawl" but I could never stomach his books.

    Dunno that author.

John D steered me to RPG writing. I was skeptical at first, but the first few he recommended were quite fun to read. Different, for sure. But technically they can be "neverending" as the protogist must journey through different elements, encounter danger, and figure out the secrets to escape to move on to the next level.
